State Education Commissioner promised to support NCEs’ concern in implementation of RTE

Bhopal, 12th July 2010. Commissioner, State Education Center of Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Manoj Jhalani promised to support NCEs’ concerns during the implementation of Right to Education (RTE) act in the state. Mr. Jhalani was speaking at a Consultation organized by National Coalition for Education on RTE Act, Model Rules and its implementation. He discussed various aspects of model rules formed by the state government for the implementation of RTE act.

Former Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh and Educationist, Mr. Sharat Chandra Behar suggested that two districts in the state could be selected for the implementation of RTE where civil society, teachers unions and other agencies would join hands to make it work. The experiences during the process could be a basis to make the act more practical.

Addressing the consultation, Chancellor of CV Raman University Mr. Santosh Chaubey said that the active participation of local community is the panacea for successful implementation of RTE act.

The various aspects of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education act 2009 & model rules and concerns of NCE were presented by the Convener of National Coalition for Education, Mr. Ramakant Rai.

While talking about the role of teachers in ensuring RTE, the President of All India Primary Teachers Federation and General Secretary of NCE, Mr. Rampal Singh said that teachers should not be involved in any other activities apart from education. He also promised to support the government’s initiative to ensure RTE in Madhya Pradesh.

Mr. Pushpendra Pal Singh, Senior Journalist briefed the participants about the media strategy for the coverage of issues related to education. He said that the everyday reporters need a new story idea. So while rising any issue related to education with media, we need to focus on the story idea behind it.

Regional Manager of Action Aid,  Ms. Sarika Sinha, Education Specialist of UNICEF Madhya Pradesh, Dr. P.S.Umasree, General Secretary of Madhya Pradesh Prathmik Shikshak Sangh , Mr. H.K.Maran , Programme Officer of CRS Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Rakesh Srivastava , National Secretary of BBA, Mr. Rakesh Senger also discussed various grassroots experiences related to education.
